At 9 inches high and 18 inches in circumference, this barrel holds 1,000 pieces, including colorful plastic "twine," fish line, eight key rings, four pierced earrings, two kinds of necklace closures, and nearly every kind of bead imaginable--from such far reaches as Peru, Kenya, Egypt, and Guatemala. You'll find cute little wood mini-alphabet-block beads, rounded wood beads, painted ceramic beads with images of objects and animals, and clear and smoky glass beads. There's almost no limit to what kids can make with these beads, but earrings and the more delicate necklaces, which require dexterity and the use of pliers, are better suited to older kids or younger ones who have adult help. The barrel can hold all kinds of things once the beads have been taken out. --N.F. Mendoza
